The smell of freshly cut grass, the crack of the bat, the roar of the crowd – these are the sounds of spring baseball. But this year, for many young players in the areas affected by the recent wildfires in Los Angeles, those sounds were threatened by the devastating loss of homes and belongings, including essential baseball equipment. That's when the Ladera Ranch community stepped up to the plate.

I was deeply moved by the stories of families who had lost everything, and I knew we had to do something. I reached out to our incredible Ladera Ranch Little League, BPA ( Baseball Performance Academy), and families throughout the community with a simple request: donate any gently used baseball gear they could spare. The response was overwhelming.

From cleats and gloves to bats and helmets, the generosity poured in. Kids cleaned out their closets, families rummaged through garages, and soon, my car was overflowing with baseball equipment. It was truly inspiring to witness the spirit of giving in our community.

Over the weekend, I had the privilege of delivering a carload of these donations to the West Pasadena Little League Storage Unit, which has become a central hub for the affected leagues. Seeing the sheer volume of donations already collected was a testament to the power of community support. It was heartwarming to know that these items, gathered with love and care from Ladera Ranch, would soon be back in the hands of kids who needed them most.

While the start of the baseball season will be delayed by about a month to allow time for reorganization and distribution of the equipment, the most important thing is that these kids will get to play baseball this spring. Because of the kindness and generosity of the Ladera Ranch community, these young athletes will have the opportunity to experience the joy and camaraderie of the game, offering a sense of normalcy and hope amidst the challenges they face.

This experience has reinforced the incredible sense of community we have here in Ladera Ranch. When we come together, we can make a real difference in the lives of others. Thank you to everyone who donated, shared the word, and helped make this effort a success. You've shown that even in the face of adversity, the spirit of baseball, and the spirit of giving, remains strong. Let's continue to support these families as they rebuild and recover.
